Recently, we’ve received reports from members about fraudulent phone calls where scammers impersonate ProMedica Federal Credit Union. These fraudsters use “spoofing” techniques to make it look like the call is coming from our official number, hoping to trick you into sharing personal or financial information.
At ProMedica Federal Credit Union, your security is our top priority. If you receive a call asking for sensitive information, we urge you to verify the call before acting.
Best Practices to Avoid Phone Fraud:
Never share sensitive information over the phone. Legitimate organizations will never ask for confidential details like your account numbers, PINs, passwords, or Social Security numbers in an unsolicited call.
Verify the caller’s identity. Even if the caller ID shows our number, hang up and call us back directly at 419-479-4040. Scammers can easily fake phone numbers to appear trustworthy.
Be cautious of urgent or threatening language. Scammers often try to pressure you by claiming there’s an emergency, such as suspicious account activity or a missed payment. If the call feels rushed or alarming, it’s likely a scam.
Watch out for requests for unusual forms of payment. Fraudsters may ask you to make payments via gift cards, cryptocurrency, or money transfers. ProMedica Federal Credit Union will never ask for payment through these methods.
Keep your contact information up to date. Ensure we have your most current phone number and email so that if there’s ever a legitimate issue, we can reach you directly.
Report suspicious calls. If you receive a fraudulent call, report it to us immediately so we can take steps to protect your account and warn other members.
By following these steps and staying vigilant, you can protect yourself from falling victim to phone fraud. If you ever have concerns about your account or a recent call, our team is here to assist.
Stay safe, and don’t hesitate to reach out if you have any questions!
